Rome, sweet Rome!

Wow! Rome was just so.... well, cold to be honest, but I think 'amazing' is more what I was going for. We landed on Sunday about noon, and spent every day walking for miles and miles around the city, seeing as much as we could... the forum, the collessium, the pantheon, the trevi fountain, the spanish steps, the piazza navona... and that was just the first day! Mornings started at 8:30am with breakfast in the room, and by 9am we were usually out traipsing across the city to one sight or another.

Sunday afternoon was a tour of the key tourist sights; Monday, the vatican museum and St. Peter's Basillica; Tuesday, the Collessium and the Roman Emperors' residences on the Palatine Hill; Wednesday, a day trip to Ostia Antica, the port city of Rome; and Thursday was shopping in the morning, and the Roman Forum in the afternoon. Good thing we had yummy dinners every night to keep our energy levels high!

Here are a few highlights from the trip - carefully selected by Frobisher, so as to not bore you with endless shots of columns and ruins...

The dome of St. Peter's Basillica, after we'd climed the 320 steps to the top...

Amos, who lives at Ostia Antica. (Did you know that Rome has over 2000 colonies of stray cats? I didn't, but when I realised how many there were, I wanted to take them all home!)

The rafters in the porch of the Pantheon (Frobisher loves architecture):

The front of the Pantheon:

Playing caryatid at Ostia Antica:

And of course, Frobisher's most favourite part, breakfast!

I climbed those steps too but its worth it to see the gorgeous view from St peters. Did you spot the open air cat sanctuary where the cats all roamed around on ancient Roman ruins?
