Hereditary Cookies?

I've been baking a lot of cookies recently...  a combination of distraction from work, and the need for extra study-time munchies - because of course home baked cookies are healthier than the store bought options! :)

This week's batch is from a random recipe I found on the internets, based on the fact that I had only a limited supply of butter (forgot to buy more), wanted to use up some of my rolled oats from last month's oatmeal raisin cookies, and have only dark brown sugar  in the house.  I had planned on using a different recipe, but I missed the bit about how it needs corn syrup, something I can't seem to find here (and forgot to look in the shop for!).

Anyway, something very odd happened.  The finished cookies look like this:
Perfectly decent for a cookie to look, I'm sure, but very disturbingly similar to the cookies my mother bakes every Thursday!  Almost identical really, except for a few missing secret ingredients (which do affect the taste, apparently - these aren't nearly as good as Mom's!)

I think my genes are starting to influence my cookie baking skills!  :)

It's probably not genetic - you can break the cycle. ;)

They look yummy, at least.

What were you expecting them to taste like? Perhaps we can reverse-engineer mom's cookies! ;)
